So, You Think You Want a Utah CFP?

Crossfire Training offers the Utah CFP as a supplement to, not as a substitute for, the Texas CHL.  We strongly encourage every Texas resident to have a Texas CHL.  However, we understand there are reasons that may not be the best course of action for you.

If you decide to get a Utah CFP ONLY, and not get a Texas CHL, then, as a Texas resident, here are a few facts you need to know:

  • You will not be exempt from the federal Gun-Free School Zone Law, which states that you cannot have a firearm within 1000 feet of the premises of a school.
  • You will not be able to bypass the instant background check when you purchase a handgun.
  • Your Utah CFP will not be recognized in states which do not honor a non-resident permit: Colorado, Florida, Michigan, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.  A non-resident Utah permit is valid in 30 states.

If you still want to pursue the Utah CFP, please contact us to enroll in a class.

PLEASE NOTE:  Effective May 10, 2011, Utah will not issue a permit to a non-resident who does not also have a permit from their home state.  A Texas resident MUST have a Texas CHL to get a non-resident Utah CFP.  Effective January 1, 2012, you will not be able to renew a Utah non-resident permit unless you have a permit from your state of residence.
