What is a Utah CFP and why would I want one?
CFP is Concealed Firearm Permit. It is the Utah equivalent of the Texas Concealed Handgun License. You might want to add the Utah CFP to your Texas CHL because Utah has reciprocity with 4 states that Texas does not – Washington, Minnesota, Ohio, and West Virginia. If it is important to you to be legal to carry in those states, then the Utah CFP is a good option.

The Utah permit is also a good backup in the event that you lose your wallet. Keep the Utah permit at home, and you will have a backup government issued photo ID to help you replace your lost items.

I am a Texas resident. Can I legally carry in Texas with a Utah CFP if I don’t have a Texas CHL?
As of May 10, 2011, Utah will no longer issue non-resident permits to persons who do not have a permit from their state of residence. If you already have a Utah CFP, you will not be able to renew it without also having a permit from your state of residence: for Texans, a Texas CHL.

How do I get a Utah CFP?
Utah requires a class given by a Utah certified instructor. We are Utah certified, and offer the Utah CFP as an addition to the Texas CHL class.  For $25, we include the application, passport photo and fingerprints. All you need to add is a copy of your driver’s license, a copy of your Texas CHL and the application fee of $65.00
